           SPECTRAL ELEMENT METHODS

            August 27-31, 2007

            EPFL - Lausanne

Jointly organised by :

EPFL's School of Continuing Education (SCE)

Institute of Energy Science - Laboratory of Computional Engineering

Academia and industry have a never-ceasing interest in the latest advances in Science and Technology as new methods and products are developed. To this end, numerical simulation is now an essential part of industrial research, and it is therefore imperative that the latest advances in this field are made available.

The aim of this practical course is to provide a broad overview of the essential components of the spectral element method. Of central interest are the spectral element discretization technique, the iterative solvers aimed at three-dimensional problems in complicated geometries, time marching schemes for transient problems and applications for viscous incompressible Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids.

The course will enable participants to obtain practical experience on the linux cluster PLEIADES (PLasma and Energy Institutes' Application DEdicated Supercomputer) of EPFL.The available software is SPECULOOS, a toolbox written in C++ to provide the user with spectral and mortar element capabilities.
